Mobile Phone Policies - 24 October 2006
An initiative is being tested in London which targets companies who fail to keep their drivers' mobile phone habits in check. Companies whose drivers are caught talking on a hand held mobile phone while driving will be questioned by the police about the policies they have in place. The initiative is intended to encourage businesse to confront their responsibilities under health and safety law, with persistent offending resulting in prosecutions and heavy fines.
The insurance industry is watching this test with interest. The Norwich Union, probably the biggest insurer of car fleets , has several useful documents covering the topic of mobile phone usage on its website www.norwichunion.com/roadsense
