BUSINESSES MUST ENSURE THEIR WASTE IS PRE-TREATED - 18 October 2007
As from the 30th October new Regulations come into force that require all non-hazardous waste to be pre-treated before being sent to landfill. The onus is on the waste producer, but it may be possible to get a waste management company to provide the pre-treatment. There is a long guide to what pre-treatment entails on the Environment Agency web site, but there is a briefer guide on the Agency’s NetRegs site at:
http://www.netregs.gov.uk/netregs/275207/663559/1853048/?version=1&lang=_e
The pre-treatment may be as simple as separating out the recyclable components, but whatever the treatment, business must declare the treatment applied to their waste management contractor for it to be sent to landfill.
